Comp List 6/26-7/02

Hello, everyone!

I just wanted to remind you that starting next week the timing of the comp list will change.  I will be starting a new job on July 1st and so the Comp List on July 3rd will not be available until late evening time.  That means sending them out is also pushed back some so I suggest you consider joining my Yahoo! Group that way you will receive the list as soon as I post it (which will be sometime Wednesday night)!  Here is how you can get to the list:

To Join the Yahoo! Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thecomplist/
(This will send the list to you via email but it will send it to you much faster than I can manually!)

I am currently sending out invitations to join the list but I am limited to the number I can send out at once so it may take a while for me to get the "invitation" to you.  You can still click on the link above to join or you can find a place on my blog on the right hand side to join.  If do you join the list successfully and are ready to be "removed" from my manually send list please just send me a message and let me know! You will also be able to find the list on my Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/emy330and on my blog (http://www.gravespartyof4.blogspot.com/and you can find me on Twitter: @CompListLady.

I also wanted to make sure you are still checking out the ads ad the end of the Comp List- this week there is a coupon that you might like!

Comp List 6/19-6/25

Hi, everyone!

I have some great news (for me)! I have accepted a new position (yay!) at the hospital that will require me to work 5 days a week.  So, that will of course mess with my Comp List Wednesdays.  I am still going to do the list but now it will be Wednesday night before the list goes out.  This will start on Wednesday, July 3rd.  That means sending them out is also pushed back some so I highly suggest you join my Yahoo! Group that way you will receive the list as soon as I post it (which will be Wednesday night)!  Here is how you can get to the list:

To Join the Yahoo! Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thecomplist/
(This will send the list to you via email but it will send it to you much faster than I can manually!)

I am also sending out invitations to join the list- I can only send out 100 per day so it is taking me a bit to get everyone invited.  If you join the list successfully and are ready to be "removed" from my manually send list please just send me a message and let me know! You will also be able to find the list on my Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/emy330) and on my blog (http://www.gravespartyof4.blogspot.com/) and you can find me on Twitter: @CompListLady.  Hopefully that will give you a few options so you can get the list on Wednesday night! Hopefully we can make this transition a smooth one.

Happy Shopping!

Comp List 6/12-6/18

Hello, everyone!

I have one important thing to pass along for all of you Walmart shoppers in Ottawa.  Up until now, they haven't really been limiting our items we purchase but that is going to change.  I will paste what the manager said so I don't mix anything up:

"I wanted to inform you of a few changes that will be coming Beginning with the June 26 spreadsheet as it relates limiting quantities on ad match / comp items.

CHANGE 1

The Wal-Mart in Ottawa will begin limiting quantities on all items to reasonable residential retail quantities.

The ad match policy is designed to help families, not business,  save money so they can live better, in their homes.  We are enforcing these limits so that we can provide a better experience for our customers.  Far to often it is happening that our entire stock is being depleted by only a few customers because they are purchasing in bulk.  This is very discouraging to many customers because when they get to the store to buy the item, it is out of stock.  In providing limits, we will be able to improve our in stock and be able to help more customers save money on the items they are looking for instead of just a few.

Example: Banana's on sale for 29 cents per pound.  Customer brings 80 lbs to the register.  Customer will be limited to a quantity of 4-5 bunches as this would be a reasonable residential qty.

CHANGE 2

If in a competitors ad a limit is indicated, the limit will be enforced at our facility.

Example:  Hamburger Helper is on sale for 50 cents limit 2 at a competitor.  Customer brings 10 boxes to the register.  Customer will be limited at the register to 2 boxes at the advertised price of 50 cents.  the limits will be enforced per customer, per day.

As always,  I appreciate all that you do for our community to help people save money so they can live better.  If you have any questions on the changes or if you receive any please let me know and I would be happy to explain."

I do think limiting items is a good idea (like when the ad says "limit 1").  But I wasn't sure how Change #1 would be enforced so I responded "That all sounds good.  I just had one question- on the part about "reasonable residential retail quantities"- is that a certain set amount that everyone will know? My concern is that what may be reasonable to one cashier may be different than what another cashier allows and so on."

Mr. Schneider responded with: "Thank you for the question.  I will tell you the same concern is one that I have been thinking about for awhile.  The problem with establishing a flat line limit is that a reasonable residential quantity varies by item.  The quantity limit is designed to stop the customers that are purchasing in bulk.  The limit will be at the discretion of the cashier and the store management on duty at the time of the transaction.  remember, our intent is to ensure that all customers have the opportunity to shop the comp items and save money."

As I said before, I think limiting items is not a terrible thing BUT with the limits to be at the discretion of the cashier it has me a bit concerned.  What is reasonable for my family of 4 is not necessarily reasonable for a family of 7 and so on.  I am also afraid this is going to cause a lot of friction between Walmart staff and the customers trying to price match.  Anyway, this will begin June 26th.  If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact Walmart at (785) 242-9222 and speak with a manager or you can contact Walmart's Corporate office at 1-800-WALMART (925-6278) or  by going to their page (http://corporate.walmart.com/contact-us) and sending an email.

Anyway, I think that is it for now.  Happy Shopping!

Emily Graves

Comp List 6/05-6/11

Hello, everyone!

First things first... I have news: I WON! I have been "crowned" as the winner in All You Magazine's "America's Smartest Shopper" contest! Woohoo! I owe a big thank you to everyone who voted.  I had 50,920 votes (50,800 if you exclude my own votes- haha).  I will be stuffed somewhere in the September issue of All You and I have won $1,000.  Thank you, everyone!

Next week the list may be a bit later than usual.  We are having our family pictures taken by Aundrea Shafer from A Shafer Photography (https://www.facebook.com/ashaferphotography) and so I will be working on the comp list in between having hair and make-up done, getting 2 children ready and having pictures taken.  I am so excited!!  As usual, it will be posted on my blog, Facebook, Twitter and sent out to the Yahoo! Group before I start sending it out manually.  So if you want to get it early you might want to try one of those options!

I also spoke with the store manager for the Walmart here in Ottawa.  I haven't heard the "official" word yet, but I am guessing they are going to start enforcing the limit listed in the ads to help keep items in stock.  So, if you are price comping an item from Walgreens and there is a limit of 5, Walmart will start enforcing that limit.  Again, this is not the official word just yet but you might plan on it happening here soon.  I asked him if he was considering limiting ALL items like the Iola Walmart has started doing (they limit you to 3 of each comp item).  He said no, that is not part of the corporate policy so he cannot do that.  So, if we end up just getting limited to what the ads say I would say we are still doing pretty well!

I will also work on sending out "invitations" for everyone to join my Yahoo! Group.  If you join this, you will get the comp list literally like 2 minutes after I am done with it! NO WAITING! Woohoo! You can still see my messages I type each week and the comp list will still be sent as an attachment.  You can also sign up by going to my blog and signing up on the right hand side at the top.  If you join the group and LOVE It like I know you will, send me a message so I can remove you from my "manually" sent list.

One last thing- are you a fan of freebies?? (Who ISN'T?)  Here is a list of 55 things you can get for free on your birthday: http://www.allyou.com/general/free-on-birthday-00411000077687/

Happy Comp List Day!
