Takin' it easy

Carter and I are just lounging today. Taking it easy. Soakin' up the air conditioning. And trying to keep Carter from touching me (that is my super sunburnt leg above- my legs and arms are fried and really sore!). Have a good Memorial Day!

Test 1, 2, 3

I signed my cellular device up so I could blog from it. Let's see if this works. (Plus there will be lots more typos so fun for you!)

This is the aftermath from last night.

It went pretty much the same as the terrible night before. Except we were lucky enough to have it start at 12:30am this time. I usually don't get to bed until after 11 and it takes me FOREVER to fall asleep. So at 12:30 I was finally getting my doze on. Then I hear the pitter patter of little feet (I thought that was supposed to be a good thing! No one warned me that the pitter patter meant I was being woken up!).

Now, once again, Carter is between us, feet firmly planted in my spine (if I was to flip over the other way they are in a much worse place that frequently gets elbowed or punched, etc.). And, like the night before he starts tossing and turning. Vowing not to let him win, I patted and rubbed his back and patted some more. All until about 3:45am. He won.

So, since I was up and was defeated, I took him back to his bed. I sat on the floor by it, and he lay in his bed. He would look up every few minutes to see if I was there. "Go back to sleepies, Carter." And he would lay down for a few more minutes. Slowly, I noticed that he was getting more and more tired. Then at 4:33 (halelujah!) He fell asleep. I told myself I would wait until 4:40 then go back to bed. I waited until 4:43.

Did you know the birds start singing at 4:51?

The Bedroom

Most people do not feel the need to discuss what goes on in their bedroom. I, however, am not most people. I feel that I MUST discuss our bedroom situation. You see, this morning I am typing this with what feels like sand under my eyelids. Not much sleep occurred in our bedroom last night. Let's do a recap, but first how about a drawing (a very high tech non-blurry drawing at that).

I ask you to notice Figure A. This square represents my pillow. It was placed nicely and completely on the bed until approximately 1:30 am. At that point, a small child around the age of 22 months, came into our room wanting to sleep in our bed. Now, as a very tired mom, I am fine with him crawling into bed because that means he will just go back to sleep quickly. And this was the case last night. He fell asleep quickly, I fell asleep quickly, and Darek, well he always falls asleep quickly. So, at 1:30 am I had to move my pillow to where it was about 47% off the bed so Carter could have "his space". You will also notice that I have a belly. This was to be expected as I am expecting, but it is still uncomfortable and causes sleeping complications.
Let's move on to Figure B. This would be the same 22 month old as mentioned above. Why would I make a 22 month old the same size as I am? Have you met Carter? He is a good-sized child and takes up as much room as a pregnant 26 year old woman. And what is going on with his feet, you might be asking? They are located squarely into my spine. If they were in my spine and not moving, that would be tolerable. But, these feet dig and kick and all kinds of other things that cause me to not be able to walk in the morning. .
On to Figure C. This is my loving husband, Darek. We have been married for 5 whole years as of TODAY. Its been wonderful. But this must be reported regardless of the fact that it is our anniversary. He takes up 60% of the bed. His head sometimes even wanders onto MY pillow when Carter is not between us. I'm thinking a restraining order.
And last but not least, Figure D. This is the one that really gets me. Figure D represents Darek's #3 pillow. We both have 2 pillows under our heads, and I have one that sometimes I place between my knees to keep my hips from hurting. But Darek takes his #3 pillow and places it next to him on the bed. Let me say this so you will get it: THE PILLOW HAS MORE ROOM THAN I DO! It somehow manages to stay in exactly that position (fully on the bed, mind you) while my pillows, my feet and my belly are often hanging off the bed. But pillow #3 never has to wake up to hands asleep or feet numb from hanging over the bed. No, it gets its own space.
This is all a nightly thing. Last night was made worse by the fact that the 22 month old child woke up at like 3 and wouldn't go back to sleep, forcing me to pat him for hours. And now he is trying to pry my hands off of the computer. But this is my therapy for the day and let's hope the day is better because of it.

Before and (Almost) After

Ok, so the building (the Wellsville Buzzard's in case you are out of the "loop") is not complete yet. But I'm getting much to anxious to wait to post the before and after pics. So here are the Before and Almost After pictures:

Looking into the kitchen area

The back part of the kitchen

This is where the salad bar is going to be

The dining room (and the women's restroom in the corner)

The kitchen- what a change!

The women's restroom brightened up with white paint and a new light bulb!

A birthday, dry sockets and more

We have been quite the busy family lately. I usually say this after going over a month without posting a blog. But seriously, we have been busy. Let's just travel on back to the end of July- the 25th to be exact. It was The Big Day. Carter's First Birthday Party (not to be confused with Carter's Actual First Birthday).

So that was all fun. Fast forward a few days to July 29th- Carter's Actual First Birthday (not to be confused with any of the other days of Carters First Birthday Week). Grandpa & Grandma Graves, Grandpa & Grammy Allen, Uncle Craig & Aunt Mary and Cole, Darek, Carter and I all went to the Kansas City Zoo.

This was one of the highlights:

And Carter led the way

And Carter's mom rode in a rascal because she had two broken ankles

Other highlights included:

Who knew they serve beer at the zoo?

A very happy carousel ride

and a short boat ride to Africa

(at which point my camera battery died. How convenient.)

So, anyway, if you are still with me on this that brings us to a pretty busy August, a short vacation to Solomon, followed by my wisdom teeth being removed on Wednesday, September 2nd, a nasty sore dry socket lasting from Friday until today (September 7th), the dry socket being packed with the medicated strips (OUCH!) and a very nice Labor Day. We also have some pretty exciting news- it looks as if we are going to be opening a new Buzzards Pizza in Wellsville which I think is going to be a great opportunity for our family. I will try to keep you posted more often, but since I always say that, I will post when I can!

The Pool is OPEN!!!

It has been REALLY awesome outside this past week! We are talking upper 80's and sunny. Perfect, if you ask me. So yesterday we decided to officially open the Graves Family Pool for the season. (And you will be quite jealous when you see it in all its giant pool glory!) Here is how it went (I will tell you exactly what Carter was thinking, in case you can't read his faces!):

"Wait, what is mom doing out there? And what is she carrying?"

"Oooh, I saw water! And I'm almost nudie, so its gonna be fun!"

"What is this again?"

"This is supposed to be fun?!?"

"Well everyone else is smiling at me, so I guess I'm supposed to be laughing and having fun. I'll try it out."

"Let's see... I can splash..."
"Oh, but I still don't know...."

"Ok, I'm sold! Its fun!"

I have been tagged!

My sister-in-law Beth tagged me to do this! Its kinda fun and you get a glimpse of my mess(es)!

1. The Kitchen Sink

Not too bad. BUT we pile our dirty dished NEXT to the sink so here is the real thing:

2. The Fridge

Notice the serious lack of food. But, lucky for us, we have lots of beverages and condiments!

3. The Toilet

So we have 4 toilets to choose from. This is the one that was closest, so it was the victim. A little dirty, but not too bad.

4. Favorite Shoes

They were cheap and I love them! And they have a very small heel on the back. Perfect!

5. Closet

If I had to choose one word to describe my closet, it would be a tie between "Eeek!" and "overcrowded".

6. Laundry

Again, not too bad, right? Wrong. Its all clean, but not folded or put away yet. I better get busy.

7. Favorite room

The living room. It's where we spend most of our time. And its where Carter has the most fun.

8. What are your kids doing?

Being cheesy for the camera!

9. Self Portrait
Oh thank heaven I was having a good hair day today.
10. Where I'd most like to visit:
I'm not really much of a traveler. I prefer to be at home. I have no real desire to go to Hawaii, or Europe, or Australia or ANYWHERE. I love being at home and around my family. But, if I had to choose one place, it would be to see these kiddo's!
And now I tag YOU!
